Brief Intervention Therapy is any therapy under eight weeks in duration. It is solution focused and aims are set at the outset.
During this time period, the therapeutic relationship which involves a sense of trust and safety can develop between the therapist and the client and a deeper understanding of client needs can be established and supported.
Following the 6 week course there is a review of the therapeutic journey and the art process that has taken place. Recommendations are made by the therapist and the client's perspective is taken on board.
In the case of clients under 18 years of age, parents are invited into the therapy session to meet with both the therapist and their child following the review. Any skills or learning that can benefit the child and the family dynamic is shared at this point or sooner when necessary, this is done without breaching the client's confidentiality.
It is important to understand that each person who receives Art Therapy has their own pace at which to engage and their own personal set of abilities and needs, all of which are taken into consideration. Therefore this course of Brief-Intervention Therapy can in some circumstances require further follow on sessions to best meet the needs of the individual.
