Group Art Therapy for Children Living with a Chronic Illness (ages 9 - 12)

Group Art Therapy for Children Living with a Chronic Illness (ages 9 - 12)

8 Week Course Commencing October 20th 2018, Cork City.

Saturdays: 10:00 - 11:30

**In advance of admission to this course a 75 minute assessment is required.  The parent(s) /guardian(s) will have an opportunity to meet and discuss concerns with the Art Therapist and also the child will have an opportunity to partake in a creative assessment process. This assessment procedure is included in the price.

This course of therapy offers your child an opportunity to express deeply held feelings relating to their illness, their future and their self-identity. Often a child won’t have the words to express these emotions and Art Therapy provides them with a gentle encouraging environment to explore these complex themes.
In addition to supporting the emotional and mental health of each child the therapeutic focus will be on:

  • Authentic expression and communication
  • Inner-resourcing
  • Resilience
  • Peer support

Each session will provide your child with emotional regulation and mindfulness techniques to empower their own self-confidence and self-care.

This course is faciltated by Art Therapist and Mindfulness teacher Róisín Kenny.

Pre assessment is required for registration on group therapy courses.

Testimonials

Art Therapy

Colette, Cork

My son has Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis. As a result, his treatment involves fortnightly injections and frequent blood tests. He absolutely hated the injections. Thankfully Art Therapy reversed this… he thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to communicate his fears and anxieties, frustrations, pain and emotions. He literally flourished at Art Therapy and on leaving the hospital one day he said he felt like he was “walking on air”. As a parent of a sick child this quite literally brought tears to my eyes. For the most part we are now “hassle” free. Art Therapy will be a vital part of my son’s treatment going forward to promote his positive mental health.

Roisin was an extremely pleasant therapist and my daughter Anna felt very comfortable spending time in Art Therapy. The appointments were always on time and Roisin explained everything very clearly to myself and my daughter. All in all Art Therapy was a positive experience.
